There are some interesting facts about this month of April 2026:
The Full Moon on April 1st was a Super Moon appearing about 15% brighter than average.
April 10th is National Siblings Day. A good excuse to send a quick text to family :)
April 14th is National Gardening Day. Usually the first week people in Ontario start eyeing their soil, even if it is still a bit chilly.
Some rare celestial alignments can be looked forward to April 16-23, If you look towards the eastern horizon about an hour before sunrise, Mercury, Mars, and Saturn will cluster together. On April 20th, they will form an almost perfectly straight line in the sky.
April 22nd is Earth Day. This year's global focus is heavily on plastic reduction and sustainability.
The Lyrid Meteor Shower will be peaking around April 22nd, 2026 which is one of the oldest recorded meteor showers known, having been observed for over 2,700 years. If clouds allow, the sky should be dark enough with the waning crescent moon to spot some fireballs!
April 23rd is World Book Day. A massive day for writers and readers alike.
Looking ahead, May 2026 is unique because it will have two full moons on May 1st and May 31st, 2026, making the second full moon in May; a Blue Moon!
